When creating an activity — or editting one from the Snorkl Library — you can customize the AI feedback to align with your classroom goals, rubric language, or instructional style.
Generate AI Feedback Settings Automatically
When setting up an activity, we always recommend starting by clicking the purple “Generate from Question” button.
This lets Snorkl do the heavy lifting by:
Capturing the question prompt
Identifying key concepts, grade level, subject area
Automatically creating a draft answer criteria
You can then edit, remove, or refine any part of what Snorkl generated.
Reviewing the Prompt & Setup
Based on its analysis of the whiteboard and the teacher’s instructions, Snorkl generates a description of the prompt and any images included on the whiteboard. It also identifies the subject area and grade level for the activity.

Teachers should review these settings to ensure they align with the intended assignment. Adjusting the subject area changes which AI tools are used. For example, an activity set up as World Language – Spanish will require responses in Spanish, while a General activity will not.
If the whiteboard includes a complex image or graph, confirming that Snorkl has accurately captured and described it will help improve the quality of feedback.
Editing the Answer Key and Criteria
Snorkl scores student responses on a 0–4 scale, assessing clarity, correctness, and completeness of explanation.
To guide the AI's scoring, teachers can edit and adjust the Answer/Criteria box.
You can edit the Answer/Criteria to include things like:
✅ Specific vocabulary words or key phrases you want students to use.
Ex. "Student must use the vocabulary "Potential Energy" in their response."
💬 Important concepts or strategies that should appear in a strong response.
Ex. "Students must set up proportions to calculate the building's height."
🎯 Criteria adjustments or age adjustments.
Ex. “These are first-grade students. Be generous with scoring."
✏️ Removing or rewording auto-generated criteria that don’t fit your goals.
Don't leave in extraneous criteria unless you really expect your students to reach the high bar set auto-generated content.
Think of Snorkl’s AI like your teaching assistant — it reads what you provide and uses it to guide feedback. You can write in plain language to direct Snorkl’s focus.
Snorkl will interpret your edits to provide more aligned feedback to each student.
Previewing Snorkl Feedback
After customizing, you can preview how feedback might sound by:
Testing the activity as a student using “Try as a student”
Recording or typing a sample response to see what feedback Snorkl provides
This helps confirm that your settings and criteria are generating the tone and depth you expect.
Tips for Best Results
Keep your answer criteria clear and short.
