Custom Insights gives educators another way to dive deeper into their Snorkl data through chat. Ask questions about a whole class, a specific activity, or an individual student—and use what you learn to help determine your next instructional steps.
You can explore student progress, summarize responses, identify patterns and misconceptions, recommended student groupings, find activities in the Snorkl Library, and more.

Where to Find Custom Insights
Navigate to a class in Snorkl. You can access Custom Insights from two places:
The Progress view for the class
The Insights page for a completed activity
No matter where you open Custom Insights, you can ask questions about data from across the class—not just the activity you're currently viewing.
Start a New Chat
Select New Chat in the bottom-left corner of Custom Insights to start a conversation.
Type your question or request and send it. From there, you can ask follow-up questions to continue exploring the data and dig deeper into what Custom Insights surfaces.
Return to a Previous Chat
Select the clock icon at the top of the Custom Insights chat box to view your previous chats.
📌 Note: Your chat history is connected to where you started the chat. Chats started from the class Progress view are saved there, while chats started from an activity are saved within that activity's Insights page.
What Can You Do with Custom Insights?
There are lots of ways to explore your student data and take action. For example, you can ask Custom Insights to:
Review class or activity progress and identify students who may need additional support.
Summarize student responses, including what students said in recordings or showed on their whiteboards.
Identify patterns, strengths, or misconceptions across student responses.
Explore patterns across a specific student's work.
Recommend small groups for reteaching based on student performance and response patterns.
Find a specific student and identify their enrolled classes.
Search the Snorkl Library for activities related to a topic, skill, or standard.
Recommend activities based on what you're seeing in your student data.
Assign an existing Snorkl Library activity to the whole class or selected students.

💡 Custom Insights can recommend student groupings, but it does not create or save groups in Snorkl.
Ask Focused Questions
Sometimes the existing Progress and Insights views surface exactly what you need. Other times, you may have a question of your own.
The key isn't asking more questions—it's asking questions specific enough to get a useful answer.
Instead of:
How is my class doing?
Try:
What misconceptions are showing up in students' explanations of equivalent fractions across these three activities?
What are students doing well in their explanations of this concept?
What patterns show up across this student's recent responses?
Which students may benefit from additional support with this skill?
Group students in groups of 3–4 for reteaching based on patterns in their responses.
Find a Snorkl Library activity that would help students practice this skill.
You can follow up on a response, ask for more detail, or take the conversation in a new direction without starting over.

Zoom out to find the patterns. Zoom back in to understand them.
Custom Insights can help point you toward interesting patterns in scores, attempts, student groups, and responses—but the student's own explanation can help you understand why.
Custom Insights can reference the student responses behind its findings, making it easier to use those insights as a starting point for reviewing student thinking and deciding what to do next.
